Community Outreach and Engagement Department (CORE)
We unite partners and families to prevent youth substance misuse and build healthier, safer communities across Detroit.
Building Stronger, Healthier Communities Together
The Community Outreach and Engagement Department (CORE) leads coalition-based prevention efforts to reduce substance misuse among youth in Detroit’s 48203, 48205, and 48234 zip codes. By uniting organizations, families, and local leaders, CORE strengthens prevention systems and promotes healthier, safer communities for all.
The Love Detroit Prevention Coalition
At the heart of CORE’s work is the Love Detroit Prevention Coalition (LDPC), a partnership of twelve community sectors; including youth, parents, schools, law enforcement, healthcare, government, and local organizations. Together, we develop strategies that prevent substance misuse and create environments where young people can thrive.
What We Do
Driving Prevention Through Action
Community Awareness Campaigns
We coordinate impactful outreach efforts such as Red Ribbon Week and DEA Drug Takeback Days, raising awareness and encouraging youth and families to make healthy choices.
Education and Training
Through workshops and events, we provide ongoing prevention education for youth, parents, and professionals, empowering them with tools to recognize risks and promote wellness.
Policy and Advocacy
CORE engages in policy advocacy and environmental strategies that reduce access to substances, address community risk factors, and influence lasting change.
Our Impact
By connecting twelve sectors and countless community members, CORE builds shared responsibility for prevention and change. Through awareness, education, and advocacy, we are helping Detroit and Wayne County become models for coordinated, community-led substance misuse prevention.
